Google has just introduced its own browser. Its name is Chrome and it is a free, open source browser. For the time being it can be used only with Windows operating system. However, its creators are working on Linux and Mac version for Chrome as well. Google Chrome is already available for users in more than 100 countries. According to Google team its purpose is to make the web faster, simpler and safer.
According to rumour, Microsoft will develop Internet Explorer in such a way that it will be difficult for Google to attract traffic. With its beta version of Chrome Google is most probably trying to oppose Microsoft’s control over browsers, since Internet Explorer holds 75% of the market. The deeper reason could be that Google is competing Microsoft’s desktop software business and is threatening to limit their domination in this field.
Although it seems that Internet Explorer is the undeniable leader among browser, followed by Mozilla, Google says that another good application will not be expendable. Google Chrome is envisaged to be a technological innovation. In fact it is an addition to the increasing number of Google desktop software.
Among the essential characteristics of the new browser is managing many browser windows simultaneously. Besides, Chrome notifies the users when they intend to open a dangerous site. The browser regularly downloads blacklists for fraudulent and malicious software. Users are allowed to find out the websites consuming more resources. In reply to the frequent reproaches with respect to users’ privacy, Google will make it possible for them to use the browser in an “incognito mode” which will not allow the storage of information related to what users do with it.
Another distinguishing feature of the search engine is that tabs are given a priority than windows. Tabs are situated at the top of the page, above the address bar. According to Google, pages will be accessed very quickly due to Java Script engine V8. They company says that V8 is two times faster than Firefox 3 and Safari 4 beta. Plugins like Adobe Flash player are not systematized and cannot be sandboxed as tabs, since they may necessitate operation above the security level of the browser itself.
An interesting function of Chrome is the ability to provide suggestions on most popular pages when you begin to write a word in the search box. You can also shortcut your way to web pages visited before or to see the most popular websites beginning with the first letters written in the address bar. You can start web applications in their own window, it is not necessary to use Omnibox URL box and browser toolbar. Chrome uses the WebKit engine and takes in Gears to create a richer platform for web applications.
Google has made their browser to be fast and technologically advanced in order to correspond to the newly emerging web applications relying heavily on multimedia and graphics.
