PHP text fields

My form written in PHP & XHTML - the periods are turning into question marks! but not all of them only the ones in 2s or more.

Example: "etc..." becomes "etc???"

Ive tried replace the periods and the question marks with ASCII code.

Im at my wits end and Im about to screammmm!!

Please help, thank you.

did you try using UTF encoding?
